“SELF – LEADERSHIP”prt 1
Tomasz Szreder (AEGEE WARSZAWA)
Tomek has been active in AEGEE for more than 4 years now. He was President of his local in Warszawa and when it was not enough he went for the european level. After T4T in Bucuresti last year, he joined AEGEE-Academy and finally ended up taking care of the future trainers – being responsible for Human Resources in Academy’s Board Magusa-Kyiv. After the Agora he decided to candidate for the second time and is now taking care of various Academy projects. He is very much interested in training, mentoring and all other tools that can help people develop themselves.
Leadership and management – two words which very often appear in the topics of workshops in AEGEE. We all attend them hoping to learn how to better influence and motivate other people. But at the same time we all forget about one truth: you cannot lead and manage other people if you cannot lead and manage yourself.
During this workshop we will try to cover this gap: you will learn about the concept of self-leadership and how to put it into practice.
Join us and discover a new approach to leadership!
“TRAININGS IN HR STRATEGY – THE WAY OF MAKING YOUR LOCAL STRONG AND FULL OF BEANS “ part 1
Marcin Grabowski “Dziku” (AEGEE KRAKÓW)
Marcin has graduated in International Relations from the Jagiellonian University in Krakow. He studied at the prestigious American Universities – Columbia University in the City of New York (School of International and Public Affairs), George Washington University in Washington, and University of California, San Diego, where he completed the Global Leadership Institute. Currently he’s been preparing Ph.D. dissertation focusing on Asia-Pacific economic integration, being also an analyst and trainings’ responsible in IntContact Consulting Services company. He’s gained his experience in the third sector, being twice the President of a branch of an international NGO – AEGEE-Krakow. Thanks to it he gathered skills. Marcin fascinates with good books (his favorites are Umberto Eco and Ryszard Kapuscinski), dancing and traveling (this is where his money goes to).
If someone asks, what the basic resource for an NGO is, HR should be mentioned first and foremost, as our locals base on voluntary work of their members. This work, followed by practical skills they obtain making projects, running locals, working in PR, HR, FR and other branches of AEGEE, is also one of the biggest asset they get from their student activity. We can reinforce this effect by proper training strategy, which gives us two basic advantages – we get better members (in many aspects) and we’re more attractive for the externals, potential members and finally actual members, who see AEGEE as a place where they can get skills and abilities necessary in the more and more competitive job market.
It seems our organization understands the abovementioned perfectly, as training pillar is one of the strongest in our association, especially in Polish locals. The problem is – there are locals implementing well prepared strategy, having a lot of members, including significant number of active and long-staying members and, of course, the so called weak locals. The basic goal of this workshop is to show weak locals, how to become strong in this respect and strong ones how to become even stronger.
As I was engaged, mostly directly, in creating training program and strategy, based on 4 projects for the last 10 years, I want to share this experience, assuming our local’s training strategy may be very useful. Without it making trainings is quite inefficient and ineffective.
During this workshop, you’ll see how to organize a training basing on project principles, then we’ll learn how to use strategic planning tools to see, what are the needs of our local and what should we focus on during the training. Then, you’ll learn how to use trainings as a tool for: recruitment, integration, composing project groups, skills and abilities transfer, and finally AEGEE promotion. You’ll also see the groups of participants and their specifics, hints how to make a program (depending on the needs and level). I’ll stress the aspects, we usually omit preparing programs, which are crucial for the real effects of the training (practical examples will be given), especially in a group building activities. Finally, methodology, location, time frame, practical issues, PR, FR and other aspects will be discussed.
